New Innovations in Medical Supply Equipment

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

A doctor cannot do his or her job without medical supply equipment, no matter how talented they are.  It is an exciting time for the healthcare community with so many advances in medical supply equipment being introduced all the time.  New research is improving the effectiveness of medical procedures and changing the way we think about medicine.  Researchers, developers and manufacturers are continuously offering new types of medical supply equipment and making improvements on existing equipment so doctors, nurses, medical assistants and other healthcare professionals can do their jobs better.

One of the most exciting new types of medical supply equipment on the horizon utilizes smartphone ultrasound imaging.  Computer scientists at Washington University combined USB-based ultrasound probe technology with smart phone technology to create a portable medical imaging device small enough to fit in the palm of a doctor’s hand.

Another development is a piece of medical supply equipment that treats prostate growths.  A team of urologists from the University of Michigan developed a more effective and less invasive method using incredibly focused ultrasound pulses that create microscopic bubbles out of dissolved gas in prostate tissue. And yet another exciting development is a high-resolution gamma camera that can detect breast cancer much better than the average clinical exam.  This piece of medical supply equipment, referred to as breast-specific gamma imaging (BSGI), is also being used for the early detection of many different types of cancers besides breast cancer.

While the above equipments are becoming more common in healthcare facilities, there are also some very exciting developments being made that are not yet available, such as robots that Duke University researchers are developing to perform surgeries.  There is no telling what kind of innovative medical supply equipment will be introduced next.  If it helps save lives, it’s a good thing.

Consider Home Medical Equipment Purchases Carefully

Monday, September 7th, 2009

No one ever thinks about home medical equipment until they really need it, and in many cases that is after an accident. Those who are fortunate enough to survive an accident and be released from the hospital often requirehome medical equipment to care for their injuries, sometimes for the rest of their lives. Various types of home medical equipment including oxygen tents, iron lungs, catheters, CPAPs, wheelchairs, hospital beds and nebulizers are available for consumers to purchase and bring home.

Many of these are covered by health insurance plans, but if not they are available at very affordable prices as long as you know where to look. When searching for home medical equipment, it is important to consider the quality and durability of these products. A person’s life may depend on this equipment, or at the very the quality of life is greatly affected by the equipment, whether it is for you or for someone you are caring for. This is why any home medical equipment you purchase should be guaranteed 100 percent safe. It should also be as comfortable and convenient as possible.

Another important factor to consider when ordering home medical equipment is whether it will be delivered on time. Most people order their equipment online or from a catalogue since there are not typically stores where you can just walk into and finds what you need. Any equipment seller should have a reputation for timely and friendly service. Again, someone’s life may depend on this equipment, so it has to get there in time to do its job.

In the unfortunate event that you or someone you love has been in an accident and have become disabled, you should always look for a reliable supplier of durablehome medical equipment.

Durable Medical Equipment for the Road

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

A lot of businesses and services use refurbished medical equipment when they are out on the field.  Paramedics and the military need mobile devices to help save lives on the spot.  Durable medical equipment need to be sturdy and withstand blows and being moved around.  With portable durable medical equipment, you can rely on it to help you diagnose and help treat patients on the road.  When you are a paramedic, all of your medical supplies need to be mobile.  This helps you become really useful and could potentially save lives.  This is especially true when the difference between life and death is only a matter of seconds.

Like anything portable, medical equipment and supplies need to be able to withstand staying in the car and a lot of moving around.  Durable medical equipment will stand the test of time and come out a winner.  When your medical equipment such as your medical imaging equipment hold up and get the job done accurately you will also come out a winner.  Don’t put someone else’s health or life on the line with medical equipment that will not be able to stand pressure and the need to be working at a moment’s notice.  If it was me, the only kind of medical equipment I would want on the scene are the durable kind!

How to Look For Medical Equipment Sales

Friday, March 20th, 2009

As a not-for-profit clinic, I know how difficult it may be to find good-quality medical equipment from reliable sources. However, we have managed throughout the years to be lucky enough to have had little problems infinding our great medical equipment. Here are some valuable resources to discovering medical equipment sales that will help you stock your hospital or home:

Medicare: The Internet is the absolute best go-to source for everything that you will need. Whether you need an EKG machine or a pulse oximeter, you will have no trouble finding it online. The only hard part is finding it at a discount. Since Medicare pays for a lot of durable medical equipment for many people, it is a good starting place to begin your search. On their web site, they have a supplier directory that has a comprehensive list of all the manufacturers and their medical equipment sales. You simply have to type in your Zip Code and you’re half way there.

Online Auctions: With online auctions such as eBay or Yahoo! you will find medical equipment at grossly discounted prices. Because they are based on bids from other users (basically other buyers who are vying for the same product), you can bid your own personal offer. If you end up winning, then great. If not, then at least you know that you didn’t end up paying beyond your limit and can easily find another auction for the same item.

Charity Drives: Oftentimes, hospital charities will have drives where they may sell or donate medical equipment. The price range on the things you find here are pretty varied but it’s always worth a shot because you never know what you will find. If you attend one, you will not only find a wide selection of medical equipment but you may also end up networking with other people who are looking for the same thing you are. If you join forces with them, you might find what you want even quicker than you expected.

In the end, there are many medical equipment sales going on in both the digital and physical world. As long as you keep your eyes peeled, you will end up leaving with something worthwhile.

Repair With Good Medical Equipment Supplies

Friday, February 20th, 2009

Even the best, most reliable medical equipment will eventually need some upkeep. It’s not made of fairy dust and finger snapping. They are real and tangible machinery that’s not adverse to the progression of time and use. This is why you need to take the proper precautions to extend the life of your medical machine. When you buy them–especially when they are new–they come with the standard trappings of their specific kind of apparatus. It’s up to you to buy specific medical equipment supplies for their constant maintenance.

For bigger and more unwieldy medical imaging equipment, it’s wise to clean it regularly. Because these kinds of equipment have the capacity to gather dust at a continuous rate, you have to try your best and keep the dirt from getting into the nooks and cranny of the instrument. Do a simple wipe-down with a very soft cloth every now and then. If you want to prevent dust all together, you can put a vinyl cover over it when it isn’t in use. Even when it is, if it’s something that you don’t have to control everyday, you may want to opt for these custom-made protectants.

Other medical equipment supplies are related to the repair of the machines. For instance, it’s wise to keep in your drawers, a couple of maintenance tools that you would need in minor repairs that you can do yourself. Have tools for opening the machine as well as smaller varieties that are no bigger than half of your pinky finger. These will be used to perform the minute tasks with the tiny nuts and bolts.

They Need Medical Supplies

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

I work at a non-profit that donates medical supplies and equipment to needy children around the world. Typically from third-world (and sometimes war-torn) countries, the health of these young people are being neglected because they don’t have the proper resources and medical care that they really deserve. The initial reason I started here was because I saw on the news a segment on the children who are affected by the war between Israel and Palestine along the Gaza Strip. There they were, innocent but so very despondent. Many of them were hurt or ailing but because they were stuck in this dangerous war zone, they couldn’t get the attention that was necessary. I knew that it was imperative that I try to help and get medical supplies over there.

With my group, we were able to collect almost 100,000 pounds of medical supplies to fly over to hospitals in countries like Ghana and Jerusalem. In any given package, there can be anything from syringes and hygienic products to hi-tech equipment like cardiac surgery equipment and medical imaging equipment. These kinds of medical supply donations are remarkable gifts for these people who can barely afford to pay the transportation fare to get to the hospital in the first place.

Although they are donated, the medical supplies that we ship are by no means sub-par in quality. The goal of our organization is to help these unfortunate people by sending them only our best and most valuable equipment. Sending junk to a country that already has junk is counterintuitive. I just am really excited to see the fruits of what our organization has done and the reaction on the children’s faces when they know that they have the possibility to be healthy again.
