As a medical school professor, I know precisely how difficult it is to gather enough funds to afford all the resources that are needed to properly educate students who are in the medical field. With rising costs of materials, medical equipment can run a pretty penny but they are absolutely necessary to facilitate the best kind of training. There really can’t be any alternative or settlement for anything less when we are essentially trying to teach young people to be future doctors of this country. The only instance in which we are able to skimp is in buying used medical equipment instead of brand new ones.
When people think of used items, they automatically have negative preconceived notions about it. They think that quality is not inherent in any of the products when they have already been pre-used. This is an unfair assessment because when you consider the standards for medical equipment today, it would make little sense to invest in equipment that is sub-par. When we receive donated used medical equipment or buy it at a discounted price, we are deliberating its durability in mind. Alot of times, you can find used medical equipment from reliable hospitals and care centers who have newer machines coming in directly from distributors. In many cases, it’s not because they can’t use it anymore; it’s simply because when faced with the choice of having new or even newer, they would naturally opt for the second choice. Even if the used medical equipment is in slight disrepair, you can have it as good as new with some professional refurbishing.
All in all, used medical equipment, such as used EKG machines, is the best way for us to afford these valuable tools for our students and ensure the brightness of their future careers.
